Ethereal Fauna

This was created for an art exhibition in Chicago called “Ethereal Fauna” the purpose of which was to “contemplate each artist’s interpretation of the inner animal as it reflects on our perceived reality and illuminates us by creating a dialogue between our consciousness and the animal nature of our inner world.” Basically and autobiographical piece with “animal” as the theme.
The idea is that each one is an excerpt from the “Manual of Intelligent Design”. I imagined that God made an instructional book for how to make all life on the planet—just in case something happened to him, or he decided to retire. By the way, I’m a devout atheist, so the irony is part of what makes it autobiographical. (Also, I’m a legit arachnophobe.) But, I picture these as little snippets out of the divine textbook on how to make all the world’s faunae, and here I’m showing fish, birds, rodents, and bugs. Also the ones I find most ordinary.
The piece is 4 small compositions (each is 5.5″ square) that float within a 12×12 area on a large sheet of translucent paper (Yupo.)
